Dear Friends: Ä£¾ÖÇϴ ģ±¸µé¿¡°Ô

Thank you to everyone who participated in the September 24 events to focus attention on the North Korean refugees -- we ended up having sixteen cities participate in the International Protest to Save North Korean Refugees.

We are continuing to get reports from the city and country coordinators and will post them on our nkfreedom.org website, but so far we have heard of great events in Busan, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Washington, D.C., while peaceful gatherings, petition deliveries to the Chinese embassy and prayer vigils and other activities also took place in Chicago, Houston, New York, San Francisco, Seoul as well as in Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Two very encouraging and significant events also occurred on September 24: the Obama administration announced the appointment of Robert King as the Special Envoy for North Korea Human Rights AND nine North Korean defectors were rescued and led to safety by The International Network of North Korean Human Rights Activists, working with Justice for North Korea and Helping Hands Korea.

Here in Washington, D.C., we were blessed to have the participation of eleven "North Korean Americans"! The group represented three families who had resettled in the USA who led a Thank You USA but Please Save More Refugees! demonstration at the State Department. Their complete testimonies can be read at www.nkfreedom.org. These testimonies clearly indicate the need for more action by the USA which presents a tremendous opportunity for the Obama administration to make a difference and fully implement the goals and intentions of the North Korea Human Rights Act. We were able to deliver a letter to the State Department for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton which outlined twelve recommendations for the United States to help save more refugees and met with Kurt Tong, director of the Office of Korean Affairs. Our new Americans were incredibly brave and courageous -- Mr. Seo, Ms. Cho and Mrs. Park deeply affected everyone they met in addition to State Department officials and key folks from Congress who were involved with the North Korea Human Rights Act. Please find attached the NKFC letter to Secretary Clinton outlining recommendations for the US government to save North Korean refugees.

We did attempt to deliver our letter for President Hu Jintao to the PRC Embassy here in DC, but as soon as we slipped it through the door, someone in the PRC embassy shot it back out the door!! And it was such a nice letter, too. Please also see attached the letter to President Hu Jintao calling respectfully for China to stop its repatriations. If you have any trouble downloading the attached letters, they are also available at nkfreedom.org

One final note: it is not to late to send your message to North Korea via our Letters from America program. If you want to participate please send your letter to skswm@aol.com by next Wednesday Sept 30. I will be recording the next batch of letters on site at the Free North Korea Radio station in Seoul. We also finally raised enough funds for the next balloon launch which will include radios and currency.
