Dear Friends:
This is an especially critical time for the North Korea human rights movement. While speculation continues over the health of Kim Jong-il, World Net Daily reports based on intelligence from Britain's MI6 that China has sent 100,000 more troops to the China/North Korea border, and all the Korean papers are reporting that North Korea has threatened to seal its border with South Korea in response to the balloon launches from South Korean-based NGOs.
The situation for the refugees currently within China is worse than ever before and our friends sending messages of truth into North Korea are under incredible pressure to cease this activity. We must stand with Fighters for a Free North Korea like Park Sang Hak and others who are sending these messages into North Korea. We know that the South Korean Government is being called upon by North Korea to try to stop this activity -- an activity the South Korean Government used to conduct until the Sunshine Policy brought more darkness to North Korea. The time to decide is now: whose side are we on -- those who reach out to the North Korean people or those who would appease the Kim Jong-il dictatorship?
There is not a more important time to take a stand in support of the human rights movement and to save the refugees. We must press on all fronts: rescue refugees out of China, protest against China's brutal repatriation policy, and support the defectors sending balloons and broadcasting into North Korea. I personally believe that the balloon launches and the radio programs are even more important today than ever before because they are a means to reassure the North Korean people that South Koreans and Americans are, in fact, on their side, and it is the brutal dictatorship of Kim Jong-il that we all oppose. The intensity of the reaction from the North Korean Regime to shut down Kaesong, to attack South Korea, and to seal its border and cut off communication are all indications of how very important these activities are in getting information to our brothers and sisters in North Korea. We know from the defectors themselves the impact of these messages.
I encourage everyone reading this email to consider supporting the balloon launches and to join us in these upcoming demonstrations on behalf of the North Korean refugees in China.
We will stage demonstrations on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6 in Washington, D.C., specifically aimed at ending China's brutal repatriation policy. I am pleased to attach flyers in English and Korean describing these events: Kim Jong-il and Hu Jintao: Partners in Killing North Korean Refugees.
Please Help Save North Korean Refugees by participating in these events and please help us spread the word by:
1) forwarding these flyers to people on your email list;
2) printing out the flyer and posting it in your office;
3) volunteering to help with flyer distributions starting tomorrow and going on every Saturday and Sunday for the next two weekends (if you can volunteer to be on one of the flyer distribution teams email Henry at henry@defenseforum.org ); and
4) if you cannot be physically present with us on December 5 and 6, then please consider making a tax-deductible donation to one or all of these causes -- the protests, the balloon launches, and the refugee rescues all need funding and 100% of donations go to the designated activity (email me at skswm@aol.com for more information).
