도널드 트럼프 대통령은 앞으로 3일 이내에 미-북 정상회담의 장소를 발표할 것이라며 비무장지대에서는 열리지 않을 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 어느 누구도 북한과 진지하고 긍정적인 소통을 하지 못할 것으로 내다봤지만 현재 미국은 이런 일을 하고 있으며 전세계에 훌륭한 일이 생길 수 있는 기회가 있다고 강조했습니다. 김영남 기자가 보도합니다.
  
  트럼프 대통령은 미-북 정상회담 장소를 3일 이내에 발표할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

  트럼프 대통령은 9일 백악관에서 열린 각료회의에서 회담이 어디서 열릴지 묻는 기자들의 질문에 이같이 답했습니다. 그러면서 회담이 비무장지대(DMZ)에서 열릴 수도 있느냐는 질문에는 DMZ에서 열리지는 않을 것이라고 설명했습니다. 또 경제와 외교 문제에서 훌륭한 성과를 보이고 있다며 북한에 억류됐다 석방된 미국인 3명을 언급했습니다.

  인질이라고 불렸던 이들이 현재 미국으로 오고 있다며 미국은 이들을 인질이 아닌 좋은 사람들이라고 부른다고 설명했습니다. 이어 이들을 석방시킨 김정은에 감사하다며 정상회담의 시기와 장소가 결정됐다고 말했습니다.

I think it will be very successful but as I always say who knows, who knows what is going to happen, but it is going to be very important event.”
  
  또한 회담은 매우 성공적일 것이라고 생각한다면서도 자신이 항상 말하듯 어떤 일이 생길지 누가 알겠느냐고 설명했습니다. 그러면서도 이 회담은 매우 중요한 행사가 될 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
  
  트럼프 대통령은 또 이는 수 년 동안 누구도 일어날 것이라고 생각하지 못했던 것이라며 북한과 한국, 일본에게 훌륭한 일이 될 것으로 믿는다고 말했습니다.

I want to thank President Xi who has been very helpful to us, two days ago on something very specific. President Xi of China, China has been very helpful.”
  
  또한 시진핑 중국 국가주석이 큰 도움을 주고 있다며 이틀 전 매우 구체적인 어떤 것과 관련해서도 도움이 됐다고 설명했습니다. 트럼프 대통령은 방금 문재인 한국 대통령과 대화를 나누고 석방됐다 풀려난 세 명의 신사와 관련해 일어나는 일들을 설명했다고 말했습니다.
  
  [녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “I just spoke to President Moon and explained what was taking place with respects to the three gentlemen, and President Moon of South Korea was very very happy to hear it. He likewise has been incredibly helpful. So the relationships we have with PM Abe, President Moon, President Xi, I think it all goes into what is taking place right now. We look very much for having the meeting between the United States and North Korea that will be announced over the next couple of days as to timing.”
  
  문 대통령은 이런 상황을 듣게 돼 매우 기뻐했다며 문 대통령 역시 엄청난 도움이 되고 있다고 설명했습니다. 이어 미국이 아베 신조 일본 총리와 문 대통령, 시 주석과 갖고 있는 관계들이 현재 일어나고 있는 일들에 영향을 주고 있다고 강조했습니다. 또한 미국은 북한과 만남을 갖는 것을 매우 고대하고 있으며 며칠 내에 (세부 내용을) 발표할 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
  
  트럼프 대통령은 또 석방된 미국인을 언급하며 사람들은 이런 일이 생길 수 있다는 것을 누구도 생각하지 못했다고 거듭 강조했습니다.

People never thought you were going to have the situation where we are having serious and positive communication with North Korea, and we are. What happens? Who knows. But we have a chance that something really great for the world and great for the North Korea, and great for everyone.”
  
  북한과 진지하고 긍정적인 소통을 하는 상황이 갖춰질 것으로 누구도 생각하지 못했다는 겁니다. 미국은 이런 소통을 하고 있다며 어떤 일이 생길지는 모르지만 전세계와 북한, 그리고 모든 사람들에게 정말 훌륭한 일이 생길 수 있는 기회가 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
  
  트럼프 대통령은 노벨 평화상을 받을 자격이 된다고 생각하느냐는 질문에 모든 사람이 그렇게 생각하지만 자신은 절대 그렇다고 말하지 않겠다고 답했습니다.
  
  [녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “Everyone thinks so but I would never say that. You know what I want to do? I want to get it finished. The prize I want is the victory for the world, not for even here, I want victory for the world, because that is what we are talking about so that is the only prize I want.”
  
  자신이 원하는 것은 문제를 끝내는 것이고 자신이 원하는 상은 전세계의 승리라는 겁니다. 이 점에 대해 대화를 나누고 있기 때문에 전세계의 승리가 자신이 원하는 유일한 상이라는 설명입니다. 트럼프 대통령은 미-북 정상회담이 무산될 수도 있느냐는 질문에 모든 일들은 다 무산될 수 있다고 답했습니다.

It doesn’t mean .. a lot of things can happen, a lot of good things can happen, a lot of bad things can happen, I believe that we have both sides want to negotiate a deal. I think it will be a very successful deal if we have really good shot at making it successful, but lots of things can happen.”
  
  좋은 일이든 나쁜 일이든 많은 일들이 생길 수 있다는 겁니다. 이어 미국과 북한 모두 합의를 위해 협상하기를 원하는 것 같다고 설명했습니다. 아울러 잘 해낸다면 매우 성공적인 합의가 있을 것으로 생각한다면서도 많은 일들이 일어날 수 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
